How do you train as a lawyer in the US, and what kind of professions are there there?

In the US, first you earn a bachelors degree in something (4 years) and then you apply to law school (another 3 years) after which you have to p the bar exam. There are a ton of unemployed lawyers because law schools are turning out far more than we need.
